After interaction with the two individuals in respect of whom the petition was filed, a bench headed by CJI D.Y. Chandrachud said that both the sisters had attained the age of majority and were majors even when they joined the Ashram.

“They have expressed their clear inclination to continue at Isha Foundation at Coimbatore. In this view, the purpose of the Habeas Corpus petition is duly fulfilled. No further directions were necessary by the High Court," the bench, also comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, said.

Disposing of the matter, the apex court said that it would be unnecessary to expand the ambit of proceedings which arose from the habeas corpus petition filed before the Madras High Court.

Further, it said that the jurisdiction of the High Court under Article 226 of the Constitution, while dealing with a habeas corpus petition, is well-defined and no further directions were necessary by the Madras High Court after it interacted with both the daughters of the petitioner.

"The closure of these proceedings, it is clarified, will not affect any other regulatory compliances which are required to be achieved by Isha Foundation," the SC said, recording the statement of senior advocate Mukul Rohtagi, who appeared on behalf of Isha Foundation, that any such requirements would be duly complied with in accordance with the law.

In an interim order passed on October 3, the Supreme Court had stayed an order of the Madras High Court issuing a direction to police in Coimbatore to probe the Isha Foundation. It had ordered that "police shall not take any action" in furtherance of the directions contained in the impugned judgment of the Madras High Court and transferred to itself the proceedings pending before the Madras HC. Following the high court’s directive, a team of 150 police personnel, led by Coimbatore's Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan conducted the inquiry into charges of two women being kept under captivity.

The Madras High Court had directed the state government and Coimbatore rural police to probe all allegations against the Isha Foundation, after a former professor of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, S.Kamaraj, had moved a habeas corpus petition that his two daughters, Geetha Kamaraj and Latha Kamaraj, were kept under captivity there.

A bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and V. Sivagnanam, while hearing the case, interacted with the daughters of the petitioner and decided to probe the case further.

The Justice Subramaniam-led Bench said that the court, exercising the writ jurisdiction under Article 226 of the Constitution, was expected to do complete justice and that it was necessary to get to the bottom of the case. It directed the Additional Public Prosecutor E. Raj Thilak to file a status report by October 4 listing all the cases related to the Isha Foundation after the petitioner's lawyer contended that there were multiple cases involving the Isha Foundation and that a doctor serving in the organisation was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (Pocso) Act.

New Zealand batter Rachin, who has his roots from Bengaluru, scored his second Test ton to guide the visitors to 402 in their first innings after bundling out India to 46 - their lowest Test total at home. He played a knock of 134 runs studded with 13 fours and four sixes. He also became the first New Zealand batter to score a Test century in India since 2012.  

On the other hand, Sarfaraz amassed his first Test ton in India's second innings as he along with Rishabh Pant led the charge on Saturday. The duo added an unbroken 113-run partnership for the fourth wicket before rain stopped play in the first session and enforced early lunch. India were 344/3 in 71 overs with Sarfaraz (125*) and Pant (53*) on the crease.  

"Cricket has a way of connecting us to our roots. Rachin Ravindra seems to have a special connection with Bengaluru, where his family hails from! Another century to his name," Tendulkar wrote on X.

"And Sarfaraz Khan, what an occasion to score your first Test century, when India needed it most! Exciting times ahead for both these talented youngsters," he added.

Resuming from 70, Sarfaraz continued to be audacious in his approach and peppered the square boundary on the off-side with tons of cheeky backfoot cuts and slices. He was well-supported by Pant, who unleashed his aggressive self after a brief period of patience, with the wicketkeeper-batter. 

After Pant got a mistimed loft off Henry over mid-on for four, Sarfaraz reached his hundred in a dominating fashion – a backfoot punch off Southee cleared the in-field for four – with the right-handed batter running while holding the bat high and his hands aloft. He then took the helmet off, roared and swung the bat delightfully, before getting a bear hug from Pant, as the stadium was up on its feet to applaud an incredible knock under pressure.

While Sarfaraz continued to paddle and dab his way to get more boundaries, Pant began to cut loose by smashing Southee for six and four respectively. He then showed good footwork in slamming Ajaz Patel for two mighty sixes, before getting to overturn a lbw decision as replays showed a big inside edge.

It was followed by New Zealand burning a review on the very next ball as Pant got bat on the skiddy delivery. Pant then got two more boundaries off Patel and Glenn Phillips to bring up his fifty in 55 balls, quashing all queries on his fitness after hobbling off the field due to being hit on the right knee while being on wicketkeeping duties on day two.

Consolidated profit after tax (PAT) for Q2 FY25 was Rs 5,044 crore, up 13 per cent (year-on-year) from Rs 4,461 crore in the same quarter last year, the bank said in its regulatory filing.

The bank reported net interest income for the quarter to Rs 7,020 crore, from Rs 6,297 crore in Q2 FY24, up 11 per cent YoY.

The total assets under management (AUM) were Rs 680,838 crore -- up 37 per cent YoY over Rs 498,342 crore (as on September 30). Kotak Asset Management, the fifth largest AMC, saw its domestic mutual fund equity AUM increase by 60 per cent YoY to Rs 319,161 crore.

According to the bank, average total deposits grew to Rs 446,110 crore for Q2 FY25, compared to Rs 385,950 crore for Q2 FY24 which is up 16 per cent YoY. Average current deposits grew to Rs 61,853 crore compared to Rs 58,351 crore in last year’s quarter, which is a 6 per cent YoY growth.

"Average savings deposits grew to Rs 124,823 crore for Q2FY25 compared to Rs 121,967 crore for Q2FY24, up 2 per cent YoY. Average term deposits grew to Rs 259,434 crore for Q2FY25, compared to Rs 205,632 crore for Q2FY24, up 26 per cent YoY,” said Kotak Mahindra Bank.

As on September 30, gross non-performing assets (GNPA) were 1.49 per cent and net performing assets (NNPAs) were 0.43 per cent (GNPA was 1.72 per cent and NNPA was 0.37 per cent on September 30, 2023). Standalone return on assets (ROA) for Q2 FY25 (annualised) was 2.17 per cent (2.45 per cent for Q2 FY24), the bank said.

The bank’s share closed 0.42 per cent up at Rs 1,871.85 apiece on Friday.
