Mahanga triple murder: NSUI activists seek Min’s arrest, scuffle with cops

Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: A scuffle erupted between student activists of the Odisha Congress and police at Raj Mahal Square here on Saturday as the activists tried to march towards Law Minister Pratap Jena's residence demanding his resignation over three murders committed in Mahanga area in Cuttack district.

About a hundred of activists belonging to Odisha branch of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) moved in a rally from the Congress Bhawan here towards Pratap Jena’s residence near the Raj Mahal Square. The activists shouted slogans against Jena and the State Government. As the rally was intercepted at Raj Mahal Square, activists tried to break police cordon and march towards Jena’s house. This led to a scuffle between them and the police.

Alleging that the Minister has complicity in killing of Bikash Jena about two years back and murder of Kulamani Baral and Dibyasingha Baral about one-and-half months back, the activists demanded that the Jena be ousted from the Ministry and arrested forthwith.

Sunny Leone, Daniel Weber Offer Prayers At Mumbai's Lalbaugcha Raja

Mumbai, September 22: Actor Sunny Leone and her husband Daniel Weber visited Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Mumbai to seek blessing from Lord Ganpati.

The couple looked stunning wearing traditional attires. Sunny wore a lovely suit with a dupatta over her head, while Daniel opted for a kurta.

Earlier, she took to her Instagram handle to share Ganesh Chaturthi's wishes for her fans. She shared an adorable family pic and wrote in the caption, “Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!! May Lord Ganesha bless us all with good health and happiness. Love the Webers!! @dirrty99 Asher, Nisha, & Noah”

The couple have three children. They welcomed twins, Noah and Asher through surrogacy while they adopted their baby girl, Nisha.

On the work front, Sunny has been part of several movies including ‘Jism 2’, ‘Jackpot’, ‘Shootout at Wadala’, ‘Ragini MMS 2’, among others.

Recently, she was seen in 'Kennedy', helmed by Kashyap, it also stars Rahul Bhat and Abhilash Thapliyal in the lead roles. The film revolves around an insomniac ex-policeman, long thought to be dead, but still operating for the corrupt system, and looking for redemption.

The movie was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and at the 14th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. ‘Kennedy’ received a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival 2023. It was selected as the closing night film at the 14th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne(IFFM).

No Road, Pregnant Woman Carried On Cot In Keonjhar

Keonjhar, Sep 22: A pregnant woman was carried on a cot for around one kilometer due to lack of motorable road connectivity to their village in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Thursday.

As per reports, Mani Munda, wife of Dhubei Munda, of Gurum Chandposhi village under Talapada gram panchayat of Telkoi block in the district complained of labour pain yesterday.

Soon, the family members called up the 102 ambulance service. Subsequently, the ambulance arrived, but it stopped near Talapada High School around one km away from their village, due to lack of motorable road connectivity.

Left with no option, the family members, with the help of villagers, carried the woman on the cot to reach the ambulance. From there, the woman was taken to the Community Health Centre in Telkoi, where she delivered a baby boy. The condition of the woman and her new born were stated to be stable, sources said.

This is not an isolated case of such incident in the region. Several villages in the district lack all-weather motorable roads for which patients and expectant mothers are being carried on cot or sling to reach the hospital.

Vigilance Arrested GRS For Taking Bribe From PMAY Beneficiary

Angul, Sept 22: In a vigilance raid conducted by Odisha Vigilance, Sri Jadumani Majhi, Gram Rojgar Sevak (GRS), Machakata Gram Panchayat (GP) under Chhendipada Block in Angul district was apprehended. He was caught red handed by the Vigilance squad for demanding and accepting Rs 4000 from a PM Awas Yojana (PMAY) beneficiary.

In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance Police Station has registered a complaint with number 31/2023 U/s-7PC Amendment Act, 2018.

Majhi demanded the bribe for online geo tagging of the beneficiary's completed house and for releasing the final bill of his completed house and to facilitate bonus in his favour for completion of house under MGNREG Scheme within stipulated time.
