Maurya (41) was arrested by the Sarojini Nagar police on Wednesday while he was dining with his wife at a hotel and planning for a flight to an overseas trip for the New Year celebrations.

A class 6 dropout, Maurya told the police that he took to crime as he had to feed two wives, nine children and six girlfriends.

He makes reels on social media sites.

Police got on the conman after an FIR was filed by Dharmendra Kumar, in which he alleged that he was duped of Rs 3 lakhs in the name of doubling the amount by a group of people.

SHO Sarojininagar, Shailendra Giri said that it all started after Maurya, who used to make false Plaster of Paris ceilings in Mumbai, stopped getting work.

“In Mumbai he had married Sangeeta, 40, in 2000 and had seven children with her. He lost his job by 2010 and returned to his village in Gonda, but found no lucrative job,” said the police.

Thereafter, he took to crime and his first case of theft and trespassing was registered in Gonda in 2016.

Since then, Mauryat has not looked back.

“Two years later he came in touch with one Sushila ,30, and took to new means of fraud. He started circulation of fake currency notes and floating ponzi like schemes,” a senior crime branch personnel added.

The two soon connived with some others and floated an outfit. In 2019, Ajeet married Sushila.

They started living a life of luxury.

Sushila gave birth to two children, the police said.

During the probe, cops also found that Maurya had built two houses, one in which Sangeeta lives and another for Sushila and her children, while he himself lives in a rented accommodation.

Interestingly, he provides his wives with a lavish life and the ‘booty’ is equally distributed between them.

Cops scanned his call detail records and found that Ajeet had six girlfriends and used to take them on long trips too.

Ajeet’s carefully curated social media presence played a pivotal role in attracting women into his orbit.

They told the parents that the child was still born, senior police officials said on Thursday.

The infant was recovered on Monday, nearly a month later, of being sold to the corporator’s family and reunited with the real mother, who had lodged an FIR with Panchpedwa police station on Sunday.

The FIR followed the realisation that the doctors’ claims were false, and after she came to know about the sale of the child through various sources.

Tulsipur Circle Officer (CO), Raghvendra Singh, said the FIR was initially lodged against the two accused Akram Jamal, the operator of Mission Hospital, in Judikuiya locality, under the Panchpedwa police station limits; and his colleague, Hafiz-ur-Rehman of Badani, Siddartha Nagar; under section 311 of the IPC (cheating through transportation of life (theft of a child)).

He said the section attracts imprisonment for life and liable for fine.

The CO said that the police will add the corporator’s name as the co-accused and further IPC sections and medical negligence will be added in the FIR during investigation.

Inspector of Panchpedwa police station, Avadhesh Raj Singh, said that the complainant was identified as Pushpa Devi, wife of Jai Jai Ram, resident of Jhauwa village, near Gaura crossing in Balarampur.

“The woman said Hafiz-ur-Rehman performed the Caesarean Section on her on October 29. After the operation, she remained in hospital for around a week during which she was informed that she gave birth to a still born child. But later she came to know that the two doctors had sold her child,” he stated.

The inspector said the police raided a house in Badani, Siddartha Nagar, which belongs to Nisar Ahmad who is a corporator and recovered the child from his house on the revelation made by the accused doctors.

He said that the corporator had escaped before the arrival of the police and is said to have fled to Nepal.

He said efforts are on to arrest him.

The CO further said that so far, investigations revealed that Hafiz-ur-Rehman was the key operator in the case and was known to the corporator as he lives near the latter’s house in Badani, Siddartha Nagar.

He said the police are further verifying whether the two accused had sold any other child in the past.

Besides, the Balrampur chief medical officer has been asked to send a report on the entire incident and further action of sealing the hospital would also be done if its registration was not found proper.

Stokes had recently come out of ODI retirement to participate in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, where he played as a specialist batter. His issues with his knee have prevented him from playing his role as an all-rounder effectively as he has rarely bowled as of late.

Stokes did come back to England's ODI team, but his return did not help the Three Lions defend their World Cup crown. They delivered an underwhelming title campaign, winning just three out of their nine matches. Though they got a spot for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, the highly-feared batting line-up of England failed to live up to its hype.

He played six matches in the tournament, scoring 304 runs at an average of 50.66 and a strike rate of above 89, with one century and two half-centuries. His best score was 108.

The all-rounder's knee surgery is highly important for him if he wants to lead his side from the front during the tour to India in January next year and help his country defend the ICC T20 World Cup title in June 2024 at West Indies/USA. Stokes' abilities as a bowler will be as important as his batting on these two high-profile events.

He will also miss the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) so as to manage his workload and fitness to play the five-Test series against India ahead of the tournament and then the ICC T20 World Cup in June.

Stokes, 32, became a part of the Super Kings ahead of the successful IPL 2023. He was bought by CSK in the auction last year for Rs 16.25 crores. But he played only two matches, scoring 15 runs with the best score of eight runs. He could not get any wickets. The all-rounder missed the majority of the season due to fitness issues.

In 45 IPL matches, Stokes has scored 935 runs at an average of 24.61, with two centuries and two fifties. His best score is 107*. He has also taken 28 wickets, with the best figures of 3/15.
