The victim has been identified as Subhranshu Sarkar, a resident of Odisha. He was studying fourth year of B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering at the IIT-Madras.
As per reports, Sarkar had not come out of his room since Thursday morning and when his friends knocked at his hostel room by evening, there was no response. When the door was broken open, he was found dead in the room.
On being informed, Kotturpuram police reached the spot and recovered the. Later, the police sent the body to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem.
A case of unnatural death has been registered at Kotturpuram police station. The victim’s mobile phone and laptop were recovered. Further investigation is underway, police said.
The management of the institute said the parents of the student were informed and they were on their way to Chennai from Odisha.
