Based on a tip-off on the ganja consignment, the Excise Intelligence officials chased and intercepted a Marui car on Bhubaneswar-Cuttack road in the morning and carried out a search inside it.
During the search around 162 kg ganja were found stuffed in a gunny bag. As the driver of the car failed to produce necessary license for cannabis transportation the ganja was seized.
Later, the driver was charged under the relevant Sections of NDPS Act and was taken into custody.
The market value of the seized ganja will be around Rs 8 lakh. The consignment was being sent from Bhubaneswar to Balasore, informed the officials.
Notably, in a similar incident yesterday, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police Crime Branch had seized 72 kg ganja from a pickup van by conducting a raid in Baunsuni area of Boudh to arrest two peddlers.
The STF had also seized several other incriminating materials from the pickup van, says report.
