The deceased has been identified as Chandrakant Rout, a Forest Guard of the Rasagobindapur forest range. He was a native of Udala town.
According to information, Rout along with other forest staff was on duty when an elephant attacked him. They were trying to drive away a herd of pachyderms when he came in front of a tusker, which pressed him under his feet.
Meanwhile, villagers have expressed resentment over the incident. They have demanded a permanent solution to the menace.
