According to information, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had been requested to issue licence for flight operation to and from the 2-B Category Utkela Airport here a few months back. Accordingly, a five-member team of the DGCA visited the airport here today.
“The DGCA team inspected the Utkela airport today. The team also conducted a review meeting over the proposal of flight operations between Bhawanipatna and Bhubaneswar,” said a State government official.
Earlier, the DGCA had written letters to Additional Secretary, Commerce and Transport Department, government of Odisha, District Collector of Kalahandi, concerned Works Department officer and Additional Director General of Police requesting them to provide required manpower for the airport.

The official said flight operations from the Utkela airport may begin anytime in April 2023 if all formalities are completed and required permission is availed from the DGCA by last week of the current month.
