The incident took place right in front of the ticket counter where around 27 tourists from the neighbouring state had gathered. They claimed despite purchasing tickets for Safari visit the staffs didn’t allow them for the same for over one hour.
As they took the matter to the notice of the Safari staff a verbal spat erupted between the two sides. Some staffs of the safari went berserk over the development and broke the steel rods installed near the ticket counter and thrashed the tourists mercilessly.
At least five tourists sustained injuries in the attack, says report.
The video of the incident shot by an unidentified person went viral on social media later.
After the victims lodged a complaint at Nandankanan Police Station, three staffs of the zoo were detained for questioning.
Informing on the incident, Nandankanan Deputy Director Sanjit Kumar has assured action against the guilty after a probe.
Range Security Officer has been asked to submit detailed report on the incident by today. Action will be taken after examining the CCTV footages and recording statements of the security guards deployed on the spot, Kumar said.
