Sensex Crashes By 1,272 Points, Investors Lose Rs 4 Lakh Crore

Mumbai, Sep 30: Indian equity indices closed in the deep red on Monday, following profit booking at a higher level.

At closing, Sensex fell 1,272 points, or 1.49 per cent, to 84,299 and Nifty fell 368 points, or 1.41 per cent, to 25,810.

The decline was led by banking stocks. Nifty Bank closed at 52,978, down 856 points or 1.59 per cent.

Due to the sharp fall, the market cap of all the listed companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) fell by about Rs 4 lakh crore to Rs 474 lakh crore.

In the Sensex pack, JSW Steel, NTPC, Tata Steel, Titan, and Asian Paints were the top gainers. Reliance, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Nestle, Tech Mahindra, M&M, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Motors, SBI, Infosys, and Sun Pharma were the top losers.

The Nifty Midcap 100 index closed 227 points or 0.38 per cent lower at 60,153 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index closed 62 points or 0.32 per cent lower at 19,179.

Among the sectoral indices, auto, IT, PSU Bank, fin service, pharma, FMCG, realty, energy, pvt bank and infra were major laggards. Only metal and media indices closed in the green.

Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities, said: "The Nifty slipped sharply following a brief pause in the previous trading session, breaking below its recent consolidation. This decline was accompanied by a significant negative divergence in the RSI (14), indicating potential further weakness."

"Sentiment may remain weak in the near term, with support placed at 25,750. A break below 25,750 could lead to further correction. On the higher side, resistance is seen at 26,000," De added.

The foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net sellers as they sold equities worth Rs 1,209 crore on September 27, while domestic institutional investors extended their buying as they bought equities worth Rs 6,886 crore on the same day.

PM Modi To Address Fourth Election Rally In Haryana Tomorrow

Chandigarh, Sep 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address an election meeting in Haryana's Faridabad on Tuesday (October 1) -- the fourth in the state since the announcement of the polls slated on October 5.

Preparations for the rally are in full swing, and it will be held on the Faridabad-Palwal border in Prithla Assembly constituency.

The Prime Minister will seek votes in support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates in all nine Assembly constituencies of the district.

In the previous elections, the party had benefited greatly from PM Modi's rally.

In the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, PM Modi had addressed an election rally in Sector 61. At that time, seven BJP MLAs were elected.

In his earlier rally in Sonipat, PM Modi said the promises made by the Congress in its manifesto in Haryana should be first implemented in Karnataka and Telangana, the two states which are currently under Congress rule.

Faridabad Police, meanwhile, have issued a traffic advisory to ensure smooth traffic flow and law and order.

To ensure smooth traffic flow, and maintain law and order, several restrictions will be in place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As per the advisory, the entry of all types of heavy and light motor vehicles (LMVs) into the district of Palwal from Faridabad and Delhi will be prohibited.

The restrictions will also be on vehicles travelling on the Agra-Mathura Highway (NH-44).

Vehicles heading to Palwal from Faridabad should use the KMP/KGP (Western Peripheral Expressway), Vadodara Expressway, instead of the NH-44, says the police advisory.

Those traveling towards the Vadodara Expressway should utilise the Kaily to Jajru underpass route.

The police have also urged commuters to use public transport, instead of private vehicles, during the restricted hours to ease traffic congestion.

The 90-member Haryana Assembly is scheduled to go to polls on October 5 and the counting of votes will be taken up on October 8.

While the BJP is aiming for a hat-trick this time, the Congress is aiming to come back to power in Haryana after 2014. (IANS)

2nd Test: India Declare First Inning On 285/9, Lead Bangladesh By 52 Runs

Kanpur, Sep 30: India declared their innings with a commanding lead of 52 runs in the second Test match against Bangladesh, who were bowled out for 233, on the fourth day of the match at the Green Park Stadium here on Monday. From the very first over, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone for the innings. The dynamic duo wasted no time, adding a staggering 50 runs in just three overs. Rohit showcased his intent by launching the first two balls he faced over the ropes, finishing his explosive cameo with a quickfire 23 runs off just 11 deliveries.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal’s aggressive batting was on full display as he struck a rapid 72 runs from 51 balls, topping the charts for India.

As the innings progressed, Jaiswal was joined by Shubman Gill, who contributed to a significant 72-run partnership for the second wicket. The partnership not only reinforced India’s dominance but also built momentum for the middle-order. Promoted to number four, Rishabh Pant couldn’t capitalise on the opportunity, falling short of a substantial score.

However, Virat Kohli stepped up, playing a crucial innings of 47 runs off 35 balls, further solidifying India’s position. KL Rahul, finding much-needed form, impressed the crowd with a blistering knock of 68 runs from just 43 deliveries. The Indian side broke several records, including the fastest team scores of 50, 100, and 150 in Test match history, showcasing their relentless approach to batting.

India, 184/4 after 21 overs, seemed well poised for a big total. Then came a record-breaking moment: India, with Kohli's towering six off Taijul Islam, brought up their fastest 200 in Test history, reaching the milestone in just 24.2 overs, surpassing Australia's previous record.

On the bowling front, Bangladesh’s spinners faced a challenging task. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the standout bowler for the visitors, claiming four wickets for 41 runs in just 6.4 overs.

Shakib Al Hasan, despite being more expensive with figures of 4 for 78 in 11 overs, managed to chip away at India’s lower order. Hasan Mahmud made an early inroad by dismissing Jaiswal, but the damage had already been done.

Earlier in the day, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the award for Chakraborty as an honour to his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema.

The prestigious award will be presented to Chakraborty at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024.

Mithun Chakraborty, affectionately known as 'Mithun Da' by his fans, has solidified his status as a celebrated figure in Indian cinema. His career began in 1976 with the film 'Mrigayaa', where his portrayal of a Santhal rebel earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor.

He subsequently won two more National Film Awards for his performances in 'Tahader Katha' (1992) and 'Swami Vivekananda' (1998). Recently, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, adding to his accolades.

Beyond his impressive acting career, Mithun has made a significant impact in the music industry with iconic dance numbers like "I Am a Disco Dancer," "Jimmy Jimmy," and "Super Dancer," which continue to resonate with fans across generations.

Most recently, Chakraborty starred in Vivek Agnihotri's critically acclaimed film 'The Kashmir Files'.
