Anla Navami 2024: Devotees Throng Sakhigopal Temple for 'Radha Pada Darshan'

Puri, Nov 10: Thousands of devotees flocked to Gopaljew Temple at Sakhigopal in Odisha’s Puri district to have a glimpse of Goddess Radha’s feet, known as ‘Radha Pada Darshan’, on the auspicious occasion of Anla Navami, today.

Devotees formed long queues outside the temple, waiting eagerly to pay obeisance to the deities. Goddess Radha was adorned in traditional Odiani Besha with her lotus feet visible. The feet are visible only on this auspicious day, as they remain covered throughout the year.

Lord Krishna, also known as Lord Gopinath, was adorned in the Natabar Besha.

According to sources, the rituals for Lord Krishna and Devi Radha started at 1.00 AM on Sunday and Mangal Arati was conducted at 1.30 AM. The ‘Mailam’ rituals was held at 3 AM. Thereafter, several rituals such as ‘Surya Puja’, ‘Dwarapala Puja’, ‘Ballbha niti’, ‘Sakala Dhupa’, ‘Balabhoga Dhup’ were performed.  The Sahana Mela (open darshan for devotees) of the deities started at 6.00 AM onwards. The Radha Pada Darshan will continue till 11.00 PM tonight. 

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended his greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Navami and Radha Pada Darshan.

“Heartiest greetings and best wishes to all on the auspicious occasion of Navami and Radha Pada Darshan. May everyone's life be filled with happiness, peace and prosperity by the blessings of Maa Radharani,” Majhi posted on X.

The district administration made elaborate arrangements for the safety and security of the devotees as well as crowd management and traffic control around the temple. As many as 20 platoons of police forces and around 50 additional officers have been deployed, sources said.
