At least three persons sustained severe injuries during the group clash. They have been identified as Hrusikesh Panda, Khageswar Sahu and Sameer.
As per reports, a serious argument was erupted between two groups during a gambling at Khadipada Melana here late last night. Later, it turned ugly when some people allegedly attacked the members of another group and snatched their cash and gold chains.
In a bid to take revenge over the incident, around 18 people of a group attacked three persons of another group with sharp weapons near Bata showroom on the Grand Road here at around 6.30 am, leaving the trio injured.
The injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital here for their treatment. Later, Sameer was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.
After getting information, Puri Town police reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter.
A case has been registered under various sections of IPC and two persons have been detained in this connection, police sources said.
