Bhubaneswar, Sept 9: Many districts in Odisha are likely to experience downpours today hours by the impact of a deep depression formed over the Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal.
The Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar issued orange massage predicting moderate rain/ thundershowers in one or two intense spell of rain likely to affect some parts of the districts of Malkkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal within next three hours.
The reigional Met office also sent Yellow warning messages predicting light to moderate rain/ thundershowers with lightning likely to affect some parts of the districts of Khordha, including Bhubaneswar city, Puri, Nuapada, Cuttack, including Cuttack city, Bargarh, Jajpur, Angul, Boudh, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Nayagarh within the next three hours.
According to the met office, the depression over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal moved slowly north-northwestwards with a speed of 7 kmph during past 6 hours, intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centered at 2330 hours IST on September 8, 2024 over the same region about 110 km south-southeast of Puri, 150 km east-southeast of Gopalpur, 160 km south-southwest of Paradip, 210 km south-southwest of Chandbali, 240 km east-northeast of Kalingapatnam and 330 km south-southwest of Digha.
It is very likely to move nearly northwestwards and cross Odisha coast near Puri by noon of September 9. Thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards across Odisha & Chhattisgarh during thesubsequent two days, a IMD bulletin read.
People have been advised to to keep watch on the weather and move to safer places accordinlty.
