Puri, Aug 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha on his birthday on September 17 and launch the State government's flagship 'Subhadra' programme.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said this during his Puri visit on Sunday.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the Odisha government's request to visit Odisha on his birthday and launch the Subhadra Yojana," Pradhan said.
He said the Prime Minister will distribute the first installment of Rs 5,000 to women on the inauguration day.
Women, aged between 21 and 60 years, will get Rs 5,000 as the first installment due on Rakshi Purnima, according to the State government's guidelines. More than 80 lakh women will benefit from the scheme.
The State government has decided to pay another installment of Rs 5,000 on International Women's Day on March 8, 2025. This way, women will be given two debit vouchers every year for five years.
During its election campaign, the BJP had promised to provide a debit voucher of Rs 50,000 to all women under the Subhadra Yojana.
