Bhubaneswar, Sep 30: In a thrilling and high-stakes operation on NH-15, the Special Crime Unit of Commissionerate Police successfully executed "Operation Black Smoke" and seized one quintal of ganja from Tamando, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Monday.

The police also seized a car (Maruti Suzuki Dzire) which was carrying the contraband item. However, the ganja smuggler managed to flee from the spot, leaving the ganga-laden car on the road.

Acting on a tip-off about the smuggling of ganja, the Special Crime Unit attempted to intercept a speeding car near Tamando. Seeing the police, the occupants of the vehicle attempted to evade capture, leading to a high-speed chase which continued from Tomando to Kaimatiapatna.

The accused smuggler stopped the car near an open field at Kaimatiapatna and fled from the spot, Commissionerate Police said.

While frisking the car, police found 100 small packets of contraband ganja weighing around 100 kg concealed in the dickey of the vehicle. Subsequently, the cops seized the ganja as well as the vehicle.

The smugglers were allegedly planning to smuggle the contraband from Phulbani to Bhubaneswar, police sources said.

A case has been registered under NDPS Act in this connection. Commissionerate Police initiated an investigation to find out the persons involved in the illegal trade.

"Operation Black Smoke" is a testament to the dedicate commitment of Special Crime Unit to keep the City free from the menace of drug and its syndicate, police said.
