Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted heavy rainfall over several districts in Odisha from October 23-25 due to the influence of a low-pressure area over the central Bay of Bengal.
"A fresh upper air cyclonic circulation is very likely to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 20. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the central Bay of Bengal around October 22, moving northwestward and intensifying further, which may result in rainfall activity in Odisha on October 23, 24, and 25." Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, Manorama Mohanty said.
"At present, it is too early to predict a cyclone. The IMD is continuously monitoring the system and will provide daily updates on the system and the forecast," she added.
Meanwhile, the well marked low pressure area over South coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining North coastal Tamil Nadu persisted and associated cyclonic circulation extended upto 5.8 Km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and weaken further into a low pressure area.
