Odisha CM Mohan Majhi, LoP Naveen Patnaik, Others Condole Demise of Ex-Minister Samir Dey

Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, former CM and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik and several other senior leaders on Monday condoled the demise of former Minister and senior BJP leader, Samir Dey.

CM Majhi also announced that Dey’s last rites would be conducted with full state honours. 

Former Minister and senior BJP leader Samir Dey passed away today while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack. He was 67.

According to family sources, Dey was suffering from a kidney-related illness and was receiving treatment in the ICU of the hospital for the past few days.

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi took to X and expressed deep sorrow over the death of the veteran politician. He also extended condolences to the bereaved family, praying for the departed soul’s peace.

Governor Raghubar Das also expressed sadness over Dey’s death and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. "He will be remembered for his work for the wellbeing of the people," the Governor said in a message on X.

Deputy Chief Ministers K V Singh Deo and Pravati Parida also condoled the demise of Dey.

In his condolence message, Deputy CM Deo said, "For years, we shared the same bench in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, our spirits intertwined in the pursuit of our state's progress. His unwavering dedication and profound wisdom was a beacon of light in my life.”

In a heartfelt tribute, Deputy CM Pravati Parida said, “Dey made a model for our party (BJP) by personally reaching out to people of Cuttack city and surrounding areas from the time of Ram Janmabhoomi movement. Entering the Assembly in 1995, he laid the foundation stone for the development of the party by giving a big shape to the public aspirations of Odia. He proved his ability as a minister in 2000 and 2004. His passing away is a great loss not only to our party but to entire Odisha,”

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed his grief over Samir Dey’s death. "Odisha has lost a loving and efficient leader. He will forever be remembered for the developmental work he did as a public representative," he said on X.

Former CM and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik also paid tribute to the late BJP leader, acknowledging his contributions to the welfare of the people and the state’s development.

"Dey’s work for the welfare of people and other development initiatives will always be remembered," Patnaik said on X.

Several other Ministers and leaders from different political parties also mourned the death of the senior BJP leader.
