Bhubaneswar, Nov 26: The Odisha Legislative Assembly condoled the demise of former Minister Samir Dey and former MLAs Dhaneswar Majhi, Niranjan Pradhan, Utkal Keshari Parida and Purna Chandra Majhi.
As the House met for the day on the first day of the Winter Session, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi brought in an obituary motion and expressed deep grief over the deaths of the former members of the Assembly.
The Chief Minister remembered the contributions of former Minister Day and former MLAs to the well-being of the State. He wanted that the condolences of the House conveyed to the bereaved families.
Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik too expressed grief over the demise of former Minister Day and former MLAs. He remembered Dey as an efficient Minister and former MLAs and said their deaths great loss for the State.
Congress Legislature Party Leader Ramachandra Kadam and CPI (M) lone MLA Laxman Munda grieved the loss of lives of former members of the House.
Members of all parties observed a one-minute silence for the departed souls.
Expressing grief, Speaker Surama Padhi said the members' condolences will be conveyed to the bereaved families.
