Bhubaneswar, Nov 26: As expected, the Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed a ruckus and was adjourned till 12.25 PM as Opposition members raised the mango kernel death issue and staged a protest in the Well of the House.
After the obituary motion, brought in by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, was passed with condolences from all parties, Speaker Surama Padhi called for the Question Hour Debate.
While Minister Rabi Naik started replying to questions, Congress Members trooped into the Well of the House and demanded a debate on the mango kernel deaths that occurred recently in Kandhamal district. They were heard demanding a judicial probe into the deahs.
Though Speaker Surama Padhi said the issue could be discussed after the Question Hour, the protesting members were unmoved.
Unable to run the House, the Speaker adjourned the House at 11.31 am till 12.25 pm.
Notably, the Winter Session of the Assembly began today. It is scheduled to run till December 31.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to present a Supplementary Budget for the current year, 2024-25, in the House today.
