Bhubanewar, June 6: The festival of Savitree Brata is being celebrated in Odisha in a grand way today. Hindu women observe the festival in the most serenic and sacred way, seeking long life and well-being of their husbands.
The Legend has it that Savitree, a mythological Hindu woman character, was so much Patibrata (husband-lover) and Pabitra in attitude (Virgin) that she could make her dead husband alive and bring back him from the Yama Raja(The king of death).
As per the tradition, Sadhabaa women (Women having husband) wear new Saree and bangles and offer Puja to goddess Savitree. They offer Bhog (Varieties of fruits, including jackfruits, mangoes, pineapple and banana) to the goddess and pray for the longlife and good health of their husbands.
Ther Brata is observed on the Savitree Amavasya in the month of Jyestha.
Women have queued up in front of the temples to offer puja across the State.
