Boudh, Jul 26: Six devotees returning from Puri after having darshan of Lord Jagannath were critically injured after a petrol tanker rammed their car on National Highway-57 in Boudh district late Saturday night, a source said.
Car Plunges Into Gorge After Collision
The accident took place on the stretch between Baringi and Madhapur in Boudh district. According to the source, the devotees were travelling to Balangir after visiting Puri when the tanker allegedly hit their car head-on.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the car fell nearly 10 feet below the ghat road.
Six Injured Shifted To Hospital
All six occupants of the car were rescued from the mangled vehicle. As they sustained serious injuries, they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Balangir for treatment.
Meanwhile, the driver of the petrol tanker has reportedly been detained at the Adenigarh police outpost. Further investigation into the accident is underway.

Sand-laden Hyva Crashes
In another road accident, a sand-laden Hyva truck crashed into a house after losing control in Ganjam district, causing extensive damage to the building. No casualties were reported.
The mishap took place at R Damodar Palli village under Dharakote block. According to the source, the speeding Hyva suddenly went out of control and veered off the road before crashing into the house.
Family members who were inside the house at the time of the accident managed to rush out, escaping unhurt.
Following the incident, locals gathered at the spot, while police reached the scene and initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Residents have demanded immediate assistance for the affected family, whose house was extensively damaged in the mishap.
