Road Mishap / Seven Injured in Suspected Hit-and-Run in Jajpur; Car Rams Two Motorcycles, Scooter

Jajpur, Aug 7: Seven people were injured after a speeding car allegedly rammed into two motorcycles and a scooter in a suspected hit-and-run incident at Kuakhia market in Odisha's Jajpur district, a source said on Friday.

According to the source, the car lost control while negotiating a bend late at night and first hit two motorcycles before crashing into a scooter. The impact left seven people with serious injuries.

With the help of locals, all the injured were shifted by ambulance to the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital and Madhuban Community Health Centre for treatment.

Following the accident, the car driver was allegedly trying to flee the spot. However, locals detained the driver and handed him over to Kuakhia Police, who have launched an investigation into the incident.

Police suspect the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. However, officials said the exact circumstances would be established only after the investigation is completed.

Two Bol Bam Devotees Seriously Injured
Two 'Bol Bam' devotees were injured after they were hit from behind by a motorcycle on National Highway-16 near the Chandeswar overbridge in Khordha district.

According to the source, the devotees were carrying holy water from Brahmapur to offer prayers at the shrine of Lord Lokanath in Puri when the motorcycle struck them from behind. The force of the impact threw both devotees a considerable distance onto the road. The motorcyclist also sustained serious injuries after falling from the vehicle.

After receiving information, Tangi Police reached the spot and shifted the injured devotees and the motorcyclist to the Tangi Community Health Centre.

As one of the devotees was reported to be in a critical condition, he was later referred to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.

The injured devotees have been identified as K Raju Patra and D Maheswar, residents of Dengapadar village under Kodala police station limits in Ganjam district. The identity of the motorcyclist had not been established at the time of reporting.
