Drowning Case / Overnight Search Ends as Body of Missing Youth Recovered From Kuakhai

Bhubaneswar, Aug 8: Two men drowned while taking a bath at the Kuakhai River near Indrapal Sai Mandir under Balianta police station limits, a source said Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Dibyajyoti Swain and Rudranarayan Swain. Fire Services personnel had rescued Rudranarayan on Friday and rushed him to Capital Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The incident occurred when Dibyajyoti, Rudranarayan and two others were having a picnic on the riverbank near Indrapal Sai Mandir under Satyabhamapur gram panchayat. After the picnic, they went to the river to bathe, during which Dibyajyoti and Rudranarayan drowned.

After being alerted, locals, Fire Services personnel and Balianta police reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. However, the search was suspended on Friday night due to darkness.

The operation resumed on Saturday morning, with teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Fire Services conducting a joint search. Dibyajyoti's body was recovered in the afternoon.

Police seized the body and sent it to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination.

8-Year-Old Boy Missing In Salandi Canal
In a separate incident, an 8-year-old boy went missing after allegedly drowning in the Salandi Canal near Barisahi under Nilagiri police station limits in Baleshwar district.


The missing boy has been identified as Rahul Dhamudia, son of Jata Dhamudia, a resident of Sanahata village under Nilgiri NAC.

According to the source, Rahul had gone to the canal to bathe with two friends when he went missing in the water.

Nilgiri Fire Services personnel reached the spot and launched a search operation to trace the boy.
