Six Critically Injured as Bus Travelling From Puri to Sundaragada Overturns; Police Probe Underway

Anugola, Jul 21: At least six passengers were critically injured, while more than 25 others sustained minor injuries, after an OSRTC Shree Jagannath Express bus overturned on National Highway-149 near Burukuna Chhak under Samal police station limits in Anugola district on Tuesday, a source said.

According to the source, the bus was travelling from Puri to Sundaragada district with more than 50 passengers on board when it allegedly lost balance near Burukuna Chhak and overturned on the roadside. Fire Services personnel and 108 ambulance teams rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations.

Critically Injured Referred to Higher Medical Centres
Following the mishap, the injured were initially admitted to the Khamar Community Health Centre. Those with critical injuries were later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Anugola, while some were referred to hospitals in Kataka and Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.

Police launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.

Mishap in Debagada
In a separate incident, a pickup van rammed into a car before crashing into a newly constructed traffic police post on National Highway-49 near the New Bus Stand Chhak in Debagada district.

Brake Failure Suspected
Preliminary information suggests that the pickup van, which was travelling from Barkote towards Deogarh, suffered a suspected brake failure. The vehicle first hit a car moving ahead before crashing into the traffic post.

The collision left both the pickup van and the car extensively damaged, while the newly constructed traffic post was completely knocked down.

No Casualties Reported
A major tragedy was averted as no traffic police personnel were present inside the post when the accident took place. Both the pickup van driver and the car driver escaped without serious injuries.

Debagada police reached the spot, seized the damaged vehicles and initiated an investigation into the incident.
