Safety Concern / Heavy Rain Wreaks Havoc at Rourkela Railway Station

Rourkela, Aug 10: Rourkela city has been battered by relentless rainfall, leading to chaos at the railway station. A temporary tent erected near the station’s main entrance for passenger convenience collapsed suddenly under the impact of strong winds and heavy rain.

Several passengers were trapped underneath, with two to three sustaining injuries serious enough to require hospitalization at the government hospital. The collapse sparked panic among commuters, highlighting the vulnerability of temporary structures during monsoon downpours.

The downpour has also severely affected the station’s second entrance, where rainwater has flooded the roads. Motorcycles and auto-rickshaws were seen half-submerged, raising concerns over poor drainage and water management.

Passengers expressed frustration as transport and movement were disrupted, while questions have been raised about the preparedness of civic authorities to handle such situations.

With continuous rainfall disrupting daily life, Rourkela residents are grappling with waterlogging, transport breakdowns, and safety hazards.

Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar witnessed a tragic road accident near Patrapada Shani Temple overbridge, where a biker lost his life on the spot after being hit by a speeding bus.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus rammed into the motorcycle from behind with such force that the rider was thrown onto the road, succumbing instantly to his injuries.

The accident triggered tension in the area as locals gathered and informed the police. Authorities reached the spot, seized the body, and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.

The identity of the deceased biker remains unknown, and police are working to trace his family. There is no report on whether the bus driver has been arrested or absconding.
