Hit-And-Run Menace
In India, hit-and-run incidents present a critical road safety challenge, accounting for approximately 18.1% of all road fatalities. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), these cases claim roughly 30,486 lives annually, averaging six deaths every hour.

Despite a high annual volume of over 67,387 cases, the legal conviction rate remains low due to a staggering 93% pendency rate in courts. To enforce accountability, the Supreme Court of India mandated the digital integration of accident and vehicle databases to track offenders swiftly, alongside stricter statutory penalties offering up to 10 years imprisonment for fleeing drivers.
