Argus News - Pitabash Panda Murder Case: Odisha CM Condemns ‘Inhuman’ Act, Odisha Lawyers Call Pen-Down Strike

Bhubaneswar, Oct 7: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow and strong condemnation over the brutal and inhuman murder of senior lawyer and BJP leader Pitabash Panda in Berhampur.

The Chief Minister described the incident as “heinous and unacceptable,” emphasizing that Odisha is a peaceful state and such acts of violence will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Panda was shot dead near his residence in Baikunthanagar while returning from his legal chamber. The attack, carried out by unidentified bike-borne assailants, has sparked outrage across the state, especially within the legal and political communities.

In his official statement, CM Majhi directed the police administration to swiftly identify and apprehend the culprits and ensure exemplary punishment. He also extended heartfelt condolences to Panda’s grieving family, acknowledging his contributions to law and public service.

The Odisha State Bar Council has reacted strongly to the incident. The Bar Council has announced a statewide pen-down strike by lawyers on October 8, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused within 48 hours and fulfilment of compensation demands. They called for decisive action to prevent such attacks on legal professionals in the future.

Pitabash Panda was a respected figure in Odisha’s legal and political landscape, known for his fearless advocacy and active role in exposing corruption. His untimely death has left a void that many say will be hard to fill.
