Bhubaneswar, Mar 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Odisha.
State BJP President Manmohan Samal and senior leader Sujeet Kumar have been named as the party’s nominees, marking a significant development in the state’s political landscape.
Samal, who has
been serving as the Odisha BJP President since March 24, 2023, is a seasoned
politician with a long history in the party. He previously held the position of
state president between 1999 and 2004, during which he played a key role in
strengthening the party’s organizational base in Odisha.

Sujeet Kumar, the
other nominee, is also a prominent figure within the party. He previously
served as a Member of Parliament representing the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) from
April 2020 to September 2024.

Alongside his
political career, he is a practicing lawyer and trained arbitrator, appearing
before the Supreme Court of India as well as various High Courts and Tribunals.
He has also contributed to governance in Odisha as Advisor to the Special
Development Council (SDC), with a rank equivalent to Chief Secretary, and also
served as Special Secretary of the Odisha State Planning Board.
As the Rajya
Sabha elections approach, all eyes will be on how these nominations play out in
the broader political scenario, and how Manmohan Samal and Sujeet Kumar
contribute to the BJP’s vision at the national level.
Earlier, the BJD announced
Santrupt Misra and Datteswar Hota as its candidates for the forthcoming Rajya
Sabha elections. The announcement was made by BJD president and former Chief
Minister Naveen Patnaik, bringing clarity after days of internal deliberations
within the party over the selection of nominees.
