Angul, Jan 3: The body of a young man from Odisha, who died while working in a private company in Bengaluru, was brought back to his native village in Angul district on Saturday following the intervention of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, easing the ordeal of his distressed family.
The deceased, identified as Sumanta Jamidar, was employed with a private company in Bengaluru. He died on December 31, a source said. His family, facing acute financial hardship, was unable to arrange for the transportation of his body back to his native village.
Following the family’s appeal, the matter was brought to the attention of Pallahara MLA Ashok Mohanty, who immediately intervened and informed Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Acting on the minister’s initiative, arrangements were made to transport Sumanta’s body by air ambulance to Bhubaneswar. From there, the body was taken by road ambulance to Khamar village in Angul district.
Sumanta’s body reached his village amid scenes of deep mourning, with family members and villagers gathering to pay their last respects. Residents said the timely assistance ensured the young man could be cremated in his native place according to local customs.
Villagers and family members expressed their gratitude to Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and MLA Ashok Mohanty for extending support during a moment of crisis. They said such intervention proved crucial for economically vulnerable families who struggle to cope with the costs associated with transporting bodies over long distances.
