Sambalpur, Sept 2: Due to persistent heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi River, authorities at Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur district, have opened two sluice gates to release excess floodwater.
Currently, the water level at Hirakud stands at 626.37 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 74,472 cusecs per second.
Earlier on 28th September, the authorities had closed all gates of the dam.
Local administration has issued warnings urging residents not to venture into the Mahanadi River, as downstream water levels are expected to rise.
