SI Recruitment Scam / SI Exam Scam: Shankar Prusty’s Explosive Statement Sparks Political Storm

Key Points
Allegations hint at involvement of senior BJD leaders in the scam.
BJD and BJP exchange sharp statements, demanding full investigation.
Bhubaneswar, Nov 2: The Odisha Crime Branch’s arrest of Shankar Prusty, the alleged mastermind behind the Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam, has triggered a political uproar following his explosive statement. Prusty claimed that deals worth thousands of crores were struck during the tenure of the previous government, raising serious questions about the involvement of influential political figures.
Allegations of Political Links
In his post-arrest statement, Prusty alleged that the scam
was not limited to a few individuals but had deep-rooted connections with
powerful leaders from the former ruling party. He specifically hinted at the
involvement of BJD leader Abhimanyu Dora, who allegedly provided shelter to key
accused at his farmhouse. These claims have reignited suspicions about
political protection and complicity.

✨Responding to the allegations, the BJD held a press conference stating that if any wrongdoing occurred during the previous government’s tenure, it should be investigated thoroughly. BJP leaders, including senior leader Basanta Panda, demanded a full-scale probe and accused the BJD of shielding scam operatives.
Past Scams Resurface
The SI scam has drawn comparisons to earlier recruitment scandals, including the 2019 OTET scam, the 2022 OJEE Main scam, and the 2023 Balasore CGL paper leak. While arrests were limited in those cases, the current investigation has led to multiple detentions, including Prusty and his associates.
Legal experts believe that if Prusty’s claims are proven true, it could expose a massive network of corruption and political collusion. The Crime Branch is expected to expand its investigation, and a CBI probe may be considered to uncover the full extent of the scam.
