Key Points

Susmita Panda accuses Bikram Panda of involvement and reports threats.

209 lawyers file vakalatnamas in support of Pitabash Panda.

Police recreate crime scene; shooters identified as Kurupati and Chintu.

Berhampur, Nov 8: Following threats from unknown callers, Pitabash Panda’s family has been provided 24x7 police protection. Earlier on Saturday, the family members revealed that they have received intimidating calls recently, seeking protection.

In response, police personnel have been deployed in civil dress to ensure their safety, as investigations into the high-profile murder case continue.

One month after the shocking murder of advocate Pitabash Panda, his wife, Susmita Panda, has made serious allegations seeking justice and protection from the Odisha Chief Minister and police authorities.

Susmita claimed that Bikram Panda, a close associate of her husband, is “100% involved” in the murder. She revealed that her family has been receiving threatening calls on October 27 and 28, allegedly using Bikram’s name and abusive language.

“Our lives are in danger. We are living in fear inside our home,” she said, urging authorities to ensure her safety and punish the culprits.

She also recounted how Bikram Panda visited their home after the murder, offering condolences and assuring that the killers would be caught. “We never imagined a friend of 35 years could be involved,” she added.

Pitabash’s brother — Purnachandra Panda — echoed the concerns, stating that the family received threatening calls from numbers identified as “Vicky” and “Parimal Das” on Truecaller. The entire family remains terrified.

In a show of solidarity, 209 lawyers have filed vakalatnamas (legal authorisation) in support of Pitabash Panda at the Berhampur SDJM Court. Meanwhile, 44 lawyers have filed vakalatnamas for the accused — Bikram Panda, Malaya Bishoyi, and Madan Dalai.

Police have intensified their investigation and recently conducted a crime scene recreation. On October 6, during Kumar Purnima night, Pitabash Panda was shot near his home while returning from his chamber on a scooter. The shooters — Kurupati Bhuyan who pulled the trigger, Chintu Pradhan who was driving the bike —, reportedly fired at close range before fleeing toward Baikunthanagar via Gate Bazaar and the new bus stand.

The case continues to unfold, with mounting pressure on law enforcement to deliver justice in this high-profile murder.
