Bhubaneswar, Nov 19: More than 34.12 lakh farmers in Odisha received financial assistance under the 21st instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme, released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.


The instalment, worth Rs 2,000 per farmer, is part of a nationwide disbursement of Rs18,000 crore to 9 crore farmers.


Centre and State Support

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy CM KV Singh Deo joined the programme virtually from Bhubaneswar. CM Majhi highlighted that the Centre provides Rs 6,000 annually in three instalments under PM-Kisan to support farmers in purchasing seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides. Complementing this, the Odisha government has introduced the CM-Kisan scheme, offering an additional Rs 4,000 in two instalments.

During the current fiscal year, the state has disbursed Rs2,991 crore to 51.54 lakh farmers under CM-Kisan. Majhi also announced that children of beneficiary farmers are being supported with scholarships for higher education. In 2024–25, 13,923 students received scholarships worth Rs53.67 crore, reinforcing the government’s commitment to farmer empowerment.


Future Initiatives

CM Majhi expressed gratitude to PM Modi for selecting Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, and Nuapada districts under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY). Deputy CM Singh Deo, also the Agriculture Minister, emphasized that the combined Rs10,000 support from Centre and State can transform farming practices and help eradicate poverty if utilized effectively.


The joint efforts of the Centre and Odisha government highlight a strong focus on farmer welfare, livelihood security, and agricultural growth. With direct financial support and educational benefits, the schemes aim to empower farming families and strengthen rural development across the state.
