Cuttack, Feb 14: Odisha Police has rolled out a statewide campaign, Operation Cyber Kabach, aimed at strengthening cyber security and taking decisive action against fraudsters exploiting digital platforms, officials said on Saturday.

The initiative, announced by Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, seeks to dismantle networks of mule accounts, fake SIM cards, and organised cybercrime syndicates.

Major Crackdowns

In Balangir district, police exposed a large fraud involving over ₹5 crore siphoned through multiple bank accounts. Two cybercriminals were arrested, and 29 passbooks, 15 cheque books, swipe machines, and mobile phones were seized. Similarly, in Mayurbhanj, a case was registered against mule accounts used in cyber fraud, with four accused identified and notices issued.


Campaign Objectives

The operation, running until February 27, 2026, focuses on eliminating anonymous bank accounts and fake SIM card operations. Police have been directed to identify operators selling bulk SIMs using forged IDs, monitor ATM and cheque withdrawal hotspots, and coordinate closely with banks to investigate suspicious accounts.

Strategic Coordination

The campaign is being conducted with intelligence support from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union Home Ministry. District Superintendents of Police and DCPs in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate are leading dedicated task forces to ensure effective enforcement.


Public Advisory

The DGP urged citizens not to share confidential information such as bank account details, ATM cards, OTPs, or passwords under any circumstances. He emphasised that the mission is to make Odisha a secure and cyber-aware state, protecting residents from evolving digital threats.
