Argus News - Odisha Police Inspector Arrested Over Rape Charges

Bhubaneswar, Oct 22: Mahila Police in Bhubaneswar arrested an Inspector of Odisha Police for allegedly sexually assaulting and deceiving a lady Sub-Inspector after promising marriage, police said on Wednesday.

The accused cop has been identified as Toshabanta Acharya. He was recently promoted from Sub-Inspector to Inspector post, sources said.

According to sources, Acharya was taken into custody by the Mahila Police Station after the complainant alleged that he had sexually exploited her under the false promise of marriage. The two officers were reportedly in a relationship for eight years, the complainant said.

The complaint includes disturbing claims that the accused caused the termination of the woman’s pregnancy. The case has stirred public outrage and raised questions about internal accountability within the Odisha Police.

A senior Police officer said that justice will be served, regardless of rank or position, and added “further investigation is underway.”
