Koraput, Feb 28: Police arrested six people, including the alleged mastermind, after dismantling an interstate hash oil manufacturing unit in Koraput district, officials said Saturday.

The operation was carried out on February 26 on a remote island at Jalaput. According to our source on the ground, the cops reached the location by boat and destroyed the illegal facility operating in the area.

Police said more than 1,800 litres of hash oil, estimated to be worth around Rs 200 crore, were seized during the raid. About 1,000 kilograms of dried cannabis were also confiscated. Equipment, including generators, pressure cookers, pipes, a laboratory set-up and around 80 litres of chemicals were recovered from the site.

The arrested include Allen Jayaraj, whom police identified as the alleged kingpin of the network. He was apprehended after a 30-hour operation in dense forested terrain. The other accused were also taken into custody in connection with the case.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the supervision of the Koraput Superintendent of Police to examine the alleged interstate links of the racket. Police said the accused will be taken on remand for further questioning. Forensic and financial investigations are underway.

Separate Hash Oil Unit Dismantled In Malkangiri
In a separate case, police in Malkangiri district recently dismantled another hash oil manufacturing unit operating in a forested area under Chitrakonda police station limits.

Police said machinery fitted with cylindrical processing containers, pressure cookers, iron compressors, pipes, gas burners connected to cylinders and plastic drums were seized from the site. Four people were arrested in that case, two of whom are reported to be from Andhra Pradesh.

Around two litres of hash oil, valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh, were seized along with chemicals and equipment worth several lakh rupees, police said.
