Nuapada Bypoll: CM Majhi Backs Jay Dholakia’s Leadership

Key Points

CM Majhi says Jay Dholakia will fulfill his father’s unfinished dreams and lead Nuapada’s development.

Jay’s entry into BJP was voluntary and welcomed unanimously by party members.

BJD leader Snehangini Chhuria says the switch won’t impact BJD’s election strategy.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 11: In a significant political development ahead of the Nuapada bypoll, Jay Dholakia, son of late MLA Rajendra Dholakia, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), drawing strong reactions from both ruling and opposition camps.

Welcoming Jay into the party, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, “Jay Dholakia will play a key role in the Nuapada bypoll and contribute to the region’s development. A son always understands the debt he owes to his father, and Jay will fulfill the dreams left incomplete by Rajendra Dholakia.”

CM Majhi emphasized that Jay’s entry was voluntary and driven by belief in BJP’s policies, ideals, and governance. “No pressure or inducement was involved. He joined the party out of conviction after witnessing the BJP government’s delivery on promises over the past 16 months,” he added.

The Chief Minister also took a swipe at the previous government, stating that despite being a senior leader, Rajendra Dholakia often felt helpless in addressing local issues due to lack of support from ministers in his own party. “Even with his stature, he struggled to solve people’s problems. BJP will now fulfill his vision for Nuapada,” CM Majhi asserted.

Meanwhile, BJD leader Snehangini Chhuria responded to Jay’s switch, saying, “We haven’t received any formal message. Our strategy remains unchanged, and we are fully prepared for the election. We will win.” She added that Jay’s move to BJP would not affect BJD’s prospects and that internal meetings and preparations are continuing as planned.

The Nuapada by-election, triggered by the demise of four-time MLA Rajendra Dholakia, is shaping up to be a high-stakes contest with both parties gearing up for a fierce battle.
