Malkangiri, July 22: Police on Tuesday detained a truck driver for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in Malkangiri district.

According to reports, the victim had gone to her friend's house on Monday evening to attend birthday celebrations. However, she did not returned home late last night following this family members launched a frantic search but were unable to locate her.

Later, locals spotted the girl at National Highway 326 near Bija Ghati, in a suspicious situation, accompanied by a truck driver and immediately reported the incident to the police.

On being informed, police rescued the minor and shifted her in the care of Shakti Sadan, a local shelter home.

A case was registered and the truck driver was detained for further interrogation into the matter.

An investigation is currently underway and further details are awaited.
