Nuapada, Oct 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially announced Jay Dholakia as its candidate for the upcoming Nuapada Assembly by-election, scheduled for November 11.

Jay is the son of late MLA Rajendra Dholakia, whose untimely demise necessitated the bypoll.

The announcement was made by the BJP’s Central Election Committee, confirming earlier speculations following Jay’s induction into the party on October 11. Jay, once seen as a potential BJD candidate, switched allegiance to the BJP, marking a significant political shift in the region.

Jay Dholakia is set to file his nomination papers on October 16 in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, senior Ministers, and party leaders.

Reports suggest that Jay’s selection was influenced by the goodwill his father enjoyed in the constituency, owing to his developmental work and social service. BJP leaders believe this legacy will resonate with voters and help secure a decisive victory.

The Nuapada seat has traditionally been a BJD stronghold, but the BJP is aiming for a win with a margin exceeding 50,000 votes. Meanwhile, the Congress has fielded veteran leader Ghasiram Majhi, banking on his grassroots connect and tribal support.

As the political atmosphere heats up, all eyes are on Nuapada, where legacy, strategy, and sentiment are set to collide in a high-stakes electoral battle.
