Sambalpur, Feb 15: Union Education Minister Dharmendra
Pradhan on Saturday inaugurated a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Model
Career Centre in Sambalpur, describing it as a “Mahashivaratri gift” for the
youth of the region. The initiative aims to provide structured career guidance,
modern skill training, and employment opportunities for local students, he said.

The centre will offer counselling based on students’ education and interests, while also facilitating advanced skill training through CII’s training partners. At the launch, Pradhan congratulated young beneficiaries who received appointment letters after completing skill programmes.
Highlighting Sambalpur’s growing industrial potential, Pradhan noted that the region is home to Mahanadi Coalfields Limited and is emerging as a strong industrial cluster for steel, aluminium, and manufacturing. With connectivity through Jharsuguda Airport, the proposed outer ring road, and abundant water and power resources, Sambalpur is positioned as an ideal investment destination, he said.

Pradhan also announced that under a CII–GITCO agreement, 17 youths from Sambalpur will travel to Japan to work in manufacturing and hospitality sectors. He said this would give Sambalpur a new global identity, alongside its cultural heritage and landmarks such as Hirakud Dam.
Emphasising the importance of industry–academia
partnerships, Pradhan said skill development, upskilling, AI, and
digitalisation will be central to Sambalpur’s growth, creating a strong
ecosystem from education to employment. He also pointed to the tourism
potential of Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary and Hirakud Dam as complementary
drivers of local development.

Calling upon industry leaders to invest in Sambalpur,
Pradhan said the region’s infrastructure, skilled manpower, and investor‑friendly
environment would accelerate the national vision of “Viksit
Bharat”.
