Bhubaneswar, Oct 22: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday ordered a comprehensive probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged Police Sub-Inspector recruitment scam, officials said.
The move comes amid growing concerns over widespread
irregularities and suspected involvement of inter-state criminal networks.
Widening Web of Corruption
The recruitment examination for sub-inspectors in Odisha Police has been marred by serious allegations of corruption and procedural violations. Initially, the investigation was assigned to the Crime Branch. However, findings so far suggest that the scam may have spread beyond Odisha, with possible links to Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and other states. Authorities suspect that organized criminal gangs operating across state borders may be involved.
CM’s Call for CBI Probe
Taking into account the gravity and inter-state nature of the scam, CM Majhi has opted for a CBI probe to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation. The objective is to expose the full extent of the corruption and bring all culprits to justice through exemplary punishment.

New Recruitment Commission
In a related development, the state government is
considering the establishment of a permanent recruitment commission for police
and other uniformed services. This move aims to enhance transparency and
prevent future irregularities in the selection process.

Background of The SI Exam Scam
Acting on a tip from the Chief Minister's Office, Golanthara
police intercepted three buses near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border and
arrested 114 candidates and three agents for their involvement in a
sub-inspector exam paper leak scam.
The candidates were allegedly being transported to
Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh to receive confidential question papers for the
sub-inspector (SI) written examination.
According to sources, Each candidate had agreed to pay up to Rs25 lakh for the question papers, with Rs10 lakh paid upfront and the remaining Rs15 lakh to be paid after they were selected for the job.
