CM Majhi Announces Major Healthcare Development Plans on Ayurveda Day

Bhubaneswar, Sep 23: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the importance of Ayurveda as India’s invaluable contribution to global health during the state-level celebration of National Ayurveda Day 2025, which took place at Jaydev Bhavan.

 

CM Majhi stated that Ayurveda is not just a medical system but a holistic approach to human well-being, rooted in knowledge and philosophy.

 

The Chief Minister of Odisha announced the establishment of a new Ayurvedic Medical College in Rairangpur of Mayurbhanj district at a cost of ₹85 crore.

 

Additionally, three Integrated AYUSH Hospitals are under construction in Dhenkanal, Berhampur, and Balasore under the National AYUSH Mission. Eight new Panchakarma centres will also be set up this year to expand access to traditional therapies.

CM Majhi highlighted that Ayurveda promotes balanced nutrition and lifestyle, offering a sustainable alternative to modern medicine, which often comes with side effects and high costs. He stressed that the government is committed to making Ayurveda accessible in both rural and urban areas, focusing on disease prevention and health preservation.

 

Currently, Odisha has three government Ayurvedic colleges, four government Homeopathic colleges, five Ayurvedic hospitals, and four Homeopathic hospitals. Over 1,191 AYUSH dispensaries are operational across the state, including 620 Ayurvedic, 562 Homeopathic, and 9 Unani centres.

 

Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling shared that more than 2.3 crore patients have benefited from AYUSH treatments this year. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening traditional healthcare infrastructure and reaching underserved communities.

 

A newsletter from the State AYUSH Directorate was unveiled by the Chief Minister during the event. Health Secretary and Commissioner Aswathi S and AYUSH Director Anjana Panda were also present at the event.
