Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: A BJP delegation led by party spokesperson Satyabrata Panda on Saturday submitted a formal complaint to the State Election Commission here in Odisha, alleging that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is using artificial intelligence (AI) tools to spread misinformation and manipulate voter sentiment ahead of the Nuapada Assembly bypoll scheduled for November 11.
The complaint follows the circulation of AI-generated distorted images of BJP state president Manmohan Samal and Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sahu on social media platforms. BJP leaders claim these images, allegedly disseminated by BJD supporters, are part of a deliberate attempt to mislead voters and tarnish the party’s image.
“This is a punishable offence. The BJD, fearing defeat, is resorting to unethical tactics to mislead voters,” Panda said. The delegation included senior BJP leaders such as Dr. Jatin Mohanty, Dilip Mallik, Sujit Kumar Das, Jayant Jena, Manasi Manjari Padhi, and Sangram Keshari Nayak. The party has demanded strict action under cyber laws and urged the Election Commission to ensure a free and fair electoral process.

The controversy has added fuel to an already intense campaign in Nuapada. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led a high-energy roadshow in support of BJP candidate Jay Dholakia, beginning with prayers at the Sunadei Temple and culminating in a massive voter outreach across Khariar Road.
On the other side, BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik addressed a large rally in support of party candidate Snehangini Chhuria, urging voters to reject “false promises” and back the BJD’s development-focused agenda.
The Congress party has also entered the fray with candidate Ghasiram Majhi, who is campaigning on a platform of secularism, tribal rights, and social justice. The party’s manifesto promises employment opportunities, improved irrigation, and support for marginalized communities.
As the bypoll draws near, Nuapada has become a flashpoint of political rivalry, where technology, ethics, and legacy politics are shaping the narrative as much as the candidates themselves.
