Veiled criticism aimed at influential figures within BJD leadership.
Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: Senior BJD MLA Arun Sahoo has sparked intense political tremors within the party following a series of pointed remarks questioning the leadership and direction of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Without naming individuals, Sahoo criticized the party’s internal dynamics, suggesting that Odisha’s prolonged distress and misgovernance over the past 24 years stem from decisions made by those in power.
Internal Dissent Surfaces
In a bold declaration, Sahoo stated, “I have decided to reveal the faces of those responsible for Odisha’s decline.” His comments, delivered during a media byte, hinted at deep-rooted dissatisfaction with the functioning of the party and its leadership. He accused certain figures of manipulating authority and issuing orders while others blindly follow, sacrificing ethics for results.
Targeting Power Structures
The Nayagarh MLA’s cryptic reference to “showing the water pot and issuing orders” is widely interpreted as a veiled attack on the Pandian couple, whose influence within BJD has been a subject of growing internal debate. He emphasized that showcasing superiority by undermining others is a tactic used by many, but it doesn’t reflect true leadership.
Rebellion Brewing
Sahoo’s remarks have ignited a wave of unrest within the party. He spoke of a “revolution burning within,” expressing frustration over the moral compromises made to achieve political goals. “Even if we don’t say it aloud, we all know who’s good and who’s not,” he said, adding that his conscience is in rebellion.
Counter-Reactions
In response, fellow BJD MLA Nabakishore Malik defended the party, subtly countering Sahu’s insinuations. Meanwhile, in Cuttack, Mayor Subash Singh acknowledged growing factionalism, especially after direct criticism of Pandian led senior leader Debashish to distance himself from district-level party activities.
Sahoo, a five time MLA from Nayagarh Assembly constituency, had previously written in his book that “true leadership must have the courage to listen to truth,” and warned against arrogance that turns leaders into puppets. His latest statements have reignited discussions about centralized control and suppressed dissent within BJD.
