Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across Bhubaneswar, an AIIMS hospital lab assistant was shot dead in broad daylight near Ransinghpur while on his way to duty.

The victim, identified as Sudhanshu Khuntia, was reportedly targeted by an unidentified assailant who fired three rounds at close range.

The attack occurred near the AIIMS campus, where Khuntia resided. Eyewitnesses claim the assailant approached stealthily and opened fire, causing panic in the area. Khuntia sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he succumbed during treatment.

Following the attack, Khandagiri police reached the scene and launched a full-scale investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the shooter may have had prior knowledge of the victim’s routine.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and questioning locals to identify the attacker. Investigators are also probing possible motives. The sudden and targeted nature of the attack has led authorities to suspect it was a premeditated act.

According to reports, a land and property dispute is the reason behind the murder. The accused, reportedly the deceased's cousin, is currently absconding.

The AIIMS community has expressed deep shock and grief over the loss of a dedicated staff member. Security measures around the hospital have been tightened, and additional patrols have been deployed in the vicinity.
