Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: In a pioneering move to revolutionize healthcare innovation in eastern India, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has launched a compact platform that integrates medical research, life sciences, and technology. This first-of-its-kind initiative aims to transform novel health-tech ideas into validated, market-ready products, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of interdisciplinary collaboration, Officials said on Saturday.
As part of this initiative, 33 start-up ideas and medical technology prototypes were showcased at the institute, where experts provided guidance on product validation and commercialization. The event marked a significant milestone in AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s mission to promote innovation-driven healthcare solutions.

Research and Director General of ICMR, lauded the effort, stating that such
convergence of healthcare, technology, and entrepreneurship is vital to the
“Viksit Bharat” movement. He emphasized the importance of empowering young
innovators to create impactful solutions for national health challenges.

Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas highlighted the institute’s strategic collaborations with IIT Bhubaneswar, BCKIC, and ILS to build a regional innovation hub. He also announced MoUs with international universities like Western Sydney University to launch integrated PhD programs for aspiring researchers.

The recently inaugurated Central Research and Skill Laboratory, opened by Union Health Minister Shri J. P. Nadda, will serve as a nucleus for multi-disciplinary research and skill development. Plans are underway to establish a Bio-Incubation Centre focused on diagnostics, disease forecasting, and AI-based healthcare tools.
The 3rd Annual Research Day and 2nd Regional Research Conclave 2025, themed “Medical Innovation: The Need of the Hour for Atmanirbhar Bharat, Viksit Bharat,” brought together faculty, researchers, and representatives from premier institutions including IIT Kharagpur, VSSUT Burla, NISER, IISER Berhampur, and others.
The Annual Research Report revealed over Rs25 crore in extramural grants and more than 1,500 publications. Notable research includes breakthroughs in anaesthesia safety, skin graft monitoring, yoga therapy, maternal nutrition, autoimmune encephalitis, and spinal cord tumour diagnostics—contributions poised to shape global healthcare practices.
