India Successfully Tests Pinaka LRGR 120 With Precision Strike
Pinaka LRGR 120 Hits Target at 120 km

Key Points

•  Successfully tested at its full 120 km range, hitting the target with textbook accuracy.
•  Maiden flight trial coincided with Defence Acquisition Council’s approval for induction into the Indian Army.
•  Fired from the in-service Pinaka launcher, proving compatibility with multiple rocket variants from the same system.
Chandipur, Dec 30: In a landmark achievement for India’s defence capabilities, the maiden flight test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR 120) was successfully conducted at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur on Monday.

Remarkably, the trial coincided with the Defence Acquisition Council’s approval of the project for induction into the Indian Army earlier in the day, underscoring the strategic importance of the system.

The LRGR, designed for a maximum range of 120 km, flawlessly executed all planned in-flight manoeuvres before striking its target with textbook precision. Range instruments tracked the rocket throughout its trajectory, confirming its performance and reliability.

Developed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), and the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), the LRGR represents a significant leap in indigenous rocket technology.

The trial was coordinated by ITR and the Proof & Experimental Establishment, with the rocket launched from the in-service Pinaka launcher. This demonstrated the launcher’s versatility, enabling deployment of Pinaka variants of different ranges from the same platform.

The successful test marks a major milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen its long-range precision strike capabilities and enhance battlefield versatility.
