The subsidy, approved by the Union Cabinet, will come into
effect from October 1, 2025. It is aimed at ensuring that essential fertilizers
such as DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate), NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium), and
other mixed nutrients remain available to farmers at affordable rates. This
move is expected to reduce input costs and enhance income for cultivators
across the country.
The Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a subsidy rate of Rs 43.02 per kg for Nitrogen (N), Rs 47.96 per kg for Phosphorous (P), Rs 2.38 per kg for Potash (K) and Rs 2.87 per kg for Sulphur (S) for the current rabi season.
Minister Pradhan emphasized that the decision will play a decisive
role in boosting the production capacity of Rabi crops, which include wheat,
barley, mustard, and pulses. He noted that the government's calibrated approach
to fertilizer pricing will help maintain affordability while supporting
sustainable farming practices.
The Minister wrapped up his remarks by reaffirming the government’s resolve to stand by the country’s “annadatas” — the food providers — and ensure that their livelihoods continue to flourish under the double-engine governance model.
