Singapore, Feb 16: In a significant development in the case of missing Odia Merchant Navy officer Sarthak Mohapatra, his family alleged a lack of cooperation from the Singapore authorities during their visit on Monday.
After Sarthak’s mother and uncle reached Singapore, they were permitted to board the vessel. However, they were only allowed to inspect Sarthak’s chamber. According to the family, the ship’s lawyers restricted them from accessing other areas of the vessel.
Sarthak’s mother, Rashmita Mohapatra, along with his uncle, travelled to Singapore in an effort to gather information about his disappearance. They were accompanied by two senior officials from the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), representing the Government of India.
Crew Members Questioned
During the visit, the DG Shipping officials questioned several crew members on board the ship as part of the inquiry. Sources said there were inconsistencies in some of the statements provided by the crew during questioning, which are now under scrutiny.
The vessel subsequently departed for China.
The family further claimed that their demand for a drug angle investigation and a probe by a scientific team has not yet been fulfilled.
