Jashipur, Aug 18: Two unidentified men allegedly posing as Bol Bam devotees snatched a bag containing gold and silver jewellery from a jewellery shop owner in Jashipur market in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, a source said Tuesday.

The incident took place near the SBI ATM at Bhandariposhi when the jewellery shop owner was returning home after closing his shop on Monday.

According to the source, the two suspects, dressed as Bol Bam devotees, approached the shopkeeper and fled with his jewellery bag.

The bag contained around 30 grams of gold ornaments and 2 kg of silver jewellery. The total value of the stolen ornaments is estimated at around Rs 8 lakh, the source added.

Jashipur police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and launched an investigation.

Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the robbery and efforts are underway to identify and trace the suspects.

Two Arrested In Jajpur
In a separate incident, Binjharpur police arrested two people in connection with two jewellery robbery cases reported in Jajpur district.

The robberies were reported from Ghantiali village under Binjharpur police station limits and Shiva Chhak under Jajpur Sadar police station limits.

In one of the incidents, gold trader Chandan Sahoo was returning home at around 9 pm on July 14 when the suspects allegedly fired a blank shot and robbed him of gold and silver jewellery and cash.

Following the investigation, police arrested two accused persons and seized stolen items and some materials used in the crime, according to the information available.
