Cuttack, Feb 21: The Cuttack Press Colony firing incident has taken a dramatic turn with police arresting all five accused involved in the case. The shocking episode, which began as a drunken quarrel, escalated into a deadly shooting that claimed the life of Rinku alias Soumya.
According to Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari, the accused include Utkal Keshari Pasayat (alias Huku), Abhijit Mohanty (alias Nandu), Priyabrata Tripathy (alias Poda), Himanshu Shekhar Nayak (alias Bau), and Rudraprasad Chand (alias Om). While most of them already had multiple cases registered across different police stations, Rudraprasad Chand was allegedly involved in such a crime for the first time.
On the day of the incident, six individuals were drinking
together. Nandu had brought a gun, which was later used by Utkal Keshari Pasayat
to fire at Rinku after a heated exchange. Instead of rushing him to a hospital
immediately, the group reportedly sat and planned how to shift blame.

✨Eventually, Nandu and Om took the injured Rinku to a nearby private hospital, where he was still alive. Later, he was moved to SCB Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police investigations revealed that Priyabrata Tripathy hid the gun at his residence after the firing. Two scooters, a car, the firearm, and several mobile phones have been seized. Authorities suspect a deliberate attempt to frame Nandu as the prime accused, while others tried to cover their tracks.
The DCP confirmed that further investigation is underway.
Police may seek remand of the accused and conduct a scene recreation to
establish the sequence of events.
